Original Canvas Art for Auction

NAME YOUR PRICE >**< ANY PRICE! Email to lindaskoglundart@gmail.com

Clearing out the studio and however lovely some of these are I need space more than I need to keep hold of the art. They are 30×30 cm deep canvasses where the edges are painted too so no need to frame. Most are oils, the brown background ones are acrylic all are painted between 2005 and 2007.  They normally sell for £135-£150 but I will happily post them to you for less – send an auction bid to: lindaskoglundart@gmail.com or email me for more info.

PART 2: Art for the heart – going down the memory lane

4) Close your eyes and take a few moments to picture your favourite place. A place or a memory that makes you happy.

5) Create this place still with your eyes closed. Continue until you feel that there is nothing more to add.

If you do this as a group take a moment to share your journey and artwork. If you do this exercise on your own take a moment to reflect.

OPTIONAL: Create a second piece using the same art material and the same place or memory but now with your eyes open.

Here is my memory of me and dad by our lake. We had a little wooden rowing boat that we use to go out in.

The world as many knew has ended and personally I hope a real awakening will take place. An awakening where we all strive to be authentic and real. There are as lot of things to be angry about but this isn’t a new phenomenon. What has changed is that we have access to information like never before and the real difference is that the direction of the world is suddenly actually affecting the comfortable white (and other) middle class and the change is knocking on our own door. The best thing we can do is to take extra time and be observant of the people around us, start sharing of what we’ve got and what we know. Take time to listen even if we may not agree. Self care needs to move up on our agenda as if we don’t look after our self we aren’t going to be able to be fully present. I’m off on a little retreat doing exactly this and I will most probably at times be outside of my comfort zone where I will have to trust my own ability and join in the programme.

Here is lovely little art exercise which can be done anywhere – just make sure you pick your art material before moving on to the next page.

  1. Choose the art material you want to work with – be it paints and brushes, clay, Fimo, spices or pens but make sure it is something you’re fairly familiar with.
  2. Find a comfortable spot for yourself and your chosen art material; the floor, a chair by the table, inside or out in your garden.

Art for Change in Chiang Mai

Photo_Canvas_LS

Art changes lives and is a powerful tool for change. Art has always been part of my life and I knew early on that creativity was what I wanted to work with. I also realised that I’ve been healing my own broken self by using art as therapy when growing up.

I am currently volunteering with Art Relief International in Chiang Mai, an artistic outreach organisation that works with a wide range of social groups and humanitarian organisations. One of the groups I am focusing on are a young boys drop-in centre for red-light district workers called Urban Light. We are currently working on a collaborative large scale-canvas, which will act as a backdrop for an on-going fundraising scheme that aims to supply transitional housing for them. Elliot Glotfelty is a talented singer and guitarist using his skills by performing at venues around Chiang Mai, raising money this way and this visual is going to hang in the background to support and hopefully further explain the aim. We’re taking inspiration from 2 current artists that both uses houses in their work; flying houses and houses in the air. We also want to add a fundraiser scale to show how much money have been raised so far and of course aiming to inspire more funds. The finished canvas will go up soon and I’ll add photos to this post as soon as I can. So far we Elliot has managed to raise a bit over 50 000 thai baht. The goal is currently at 200 000 as this would house 10 boys for a year.

Art Relief is a professional placement with research and development opportunities rather than traditional volunteering so I am likely to come home with new insights and ideas on how to further improve the lives of Londoners through art. We have a translator who comes with us to all of our workshops which include two Temple schools, a juvenile detention centre, an orphanage, special needs homes for adults and another one for children just to name a few. It’s a joy to work with them and see what an amazing difference creativity and connection can make. There is a lot to do at present so I will update with photos and further info next week. You can still support my own fundraising campaign either through Indiegogo or by buying art prints directly from me as I’m still a bit short of programme funds. Or simply shaer this, make some noise and help me get the word out!

150 million – Vladimir Mayakovsky & Linda Skoglund. 1917 – 1920 and 1997 respectively

Alex-and-tree-people_0001 Alex-and-tree-people_2

In 1997 I made a series of six paintings for my final exhibition in Sweden based on Vladimir Mayakovsky’s anonymous revolutionary poem 150 million.  I haven’t been able to find an English translations so, sorry, here is only the Swedish version and I’ll update as soon as I get hold of a good English translation. Please feel free to contact me if you know of one.

150 000 000

Vem kallar jorden skapargeni?
Hoj hoj
Hoj hoj hoj hoj hoj hoj!
Vanja!

Oj oj
Det är trångt här i blockadens råttfälla
Automobiler! Motorcyklar! Framåt, till mötesstället!

Allt smått till höger!
Vägarna ställer upp i långa rader.

Hoj hoj
hoj hoj hoj hoj!
Vi kommer vi kommer!
Nu viker snöstormens vitgardister!

I am also in the process of selecting a winner for the August print give-away and will post details shortly. Thanks to all of those who engaged and there will be more chances to win prints later on this year. September is simply too busy with the Battersea exhibition, Spitalfields and other art markets. Immediacy is the word of the month and I’m back in the printing studio in order to keep up with all the exciting opportunities. Today I will go through selecting work together with Dizzy Inks to be shown at Outstanding Festival in Nottingham next weekend.
